How to Do a New Thing

About 5 years ago, I survived a very dark night that saved my life. That’s a story for another time. But the following Sunday, I darkened the doorstep of my local church. It was a homecoming for me. You see, I was the backslidden Christian. I was desperate.

I say these things because it was a time in my life when I was so paralyzed by fear that I couldn’t see past all the ways I was stuck. Have you ever been there?

Well, the service had already finished, and I needed Church that day.  I knew it.  So I found a lady still inside and asked her to pray with me. She did. She also gave me a ton of resources. I walked away with a book that became my guide in the days to come. Life Unstuck by Ms. Pat Layton was a lifeline for me. It helped me see God in the hard places where it would have been easy to blame him.  The manifesto at the beginning was especially helpful. She encouraged me at the start to use that manifesto over and over, as  often as I needed. It was powerful.

There was something else that praying lady told me. Read my Bible, she told me. Repeatedly, she told me. I needed to be in the Word, she said. And she was right.

I’ve come a long way since then. I find myself embracing that reminder as I consider the possibilities God has for me now.  I’m letting go of the old to step into the new. That means trying new things. May I share what I’m learning with you? It’s okay to want more than your current situation. It’s okay to WANT what God still wants to give you.

If you’re anything like me, you may have just a little trouble confessing that to Him.  I get it.

During that season I mentioned where God began to rewrite my story, I discovered a trend. There was often a blessing to be found in the things that were taken away. Disappointments became the path to something better. I just didn’t know it.

God didn’t want me to get stuck because He knew He had more that He wanted to give me. And if I stayed where I was, I never would have reached for those things. I might never have seen the path He was laying out for me.

Now I certainly don’t compare my petty disappointments to serious loss, or grief. I want to make that clear. I’m simply stating that God has more for you than you can currently see. Even if you don’t know it yet.

That’s exactly why I want to tell you about the digital resources I’ve put together for you.  They’re both super simple tools to help you get clear and move toward your God-given dreams. This content is NOT exclusive to faith, but rather inspired by it. So no matter where you are on the spectrum, I encourage you to benefit from these tools.  I was challenged to do the same work I offer to you, and I’m grateful for what that experience yielded within me. I hope you’ll join me on that path to discovery.
